VBS stands for Vacation Bible School. It’s a short-term, fun, faith-based program for kids—usually held over a week during the summer—where children learn about God through Bible stories, songs, games, crafts, and other activities. It's a week for kids to come for an engaging week away from regular routines to explore faith in a fun, safe environment.
Background checks for all adult volunteers. We also have a security team at each station, and a nursing center in the office. All volunteers are briefed on our safety protocols prior to the VBS week. Horizons prioritizes a safe, fun environment for children.
Children aged 3 (must be fully potty‑trained) through those finishing 4th grade this school year are welcome to register as participants.
No! VBS is free for all registered participants and volunteers. There will be an option to order a VBS shirt, but is not required. All VBS volunteer shirts are provided. There will also be a VBS shop open during the week to buy fun items for theme nights, stickers, etc.
Rainforest Falls! is our Vacation Bible School for kids ages 3 through outgoing 4th grade. Over 5 evenings (Sun–Thurs), children explore God’s love through interactive stories, high‑energy games, music, and fun group activities set in a rainforest adventure theme. This year is all about exploring the true nature of God, learning about who God really is!
Yes! Students in outgoing 5th–12th grade can serve as Youth Volunteers, helping lead activities and encouraging younger kids. Adults (18+) can also serve in support and leadership roles, such as Crew Leaders, check‑in, or photography. All adult volunteers are required to complete a background check to ensure a safe environment. Register the whole family here.
Every night starts in the worship center with music — kids learn fun songs with actions, and by the end of the week, they’re singing loud and proud! After a brief stage game and an introduction of the day’s focus (for example, Day 1: God is our Creator — Psalm 103:22), kids rotate through stations with their small groups:
Station 1: Buddy Video – A short video featuring the “Buddy Animal of the Day” tied to the daily scripture and focus. Kids discuss what they learned, ask questions, and share their own “God sightings” (things they’re thankful for or where they see God at work). Past examples: steak, family, soccer.
Station 2: Outside/Game – Kids play outdoor games, visit the water table to stay hydrated, and are reminded of the daily focus.
Station 3: Skit – Kids watch an interactive skit that applies the day’s lesson to real life, followed by a small group discussion.
After stations, kids return to the worship center for more songs and a fun community service challenge — last year, if the kids met the goal for bringing 1,234 cereal boxes, the on-stage heroes had to complete a silly “challenge” (like being covered in s’mores ingredients!).
Finally, parents and guardians are invited into the sanctuary for pick-up, using their child’s name tag to reunite.
Kids should come ready to have fun — comfortable clothes and shoes are recommended since activities can be active and messy. We also have theme nights for each evening of VBS. Once the themes are finalized, they’ll be posted online and shared via email. Kids and volunteers often go all out, but it’s completely okay if your child doesn’t want to participate in dressing up.
